Campaigns UNICEF Day for Change ResourcesMemorandum to principals09 August 2006MEMORANDUM TO SCHOOL PRINCIPALS UNICEF DAY FOR CHANGE - UNIVERSAL CHILDRENS DAY 2006 Advice to Schools, Student Representative Councils (SRCs) and Student Equity Advisory Teams (SEATs). Education enables students to develop a deeper understanding of the health and wellbeing of vulnerable children around the world, especially in countries less fortunate than their own. As part of an unprecedented partnership between public schools and UNICEF, the NSW Teachers Federation and the NSW Department of Education and Training have developed the UNICEF Day for Change initiative. This initiative provides students with an opportunity to learn about and support UNICEF's work with vulnerable children in other parts of the world. A key activity on the Day is fundraising where students are encouraged to donate spare change in order to make a change. School based activities can be developed and conducted by student leaders. SRCs and SEATs are encouraged to work with the school community to highlight the core values of all public schools and to raise awareness of their role as young global citizens. It is envisaged that all schools will participate in UNICEF Day for Change on 25 October 2006, UNIVERSAL CHILDRENS DAY. If schools are unable to celebrate Day for Change on this day, an alternative date could be arranged. Support materials and advice regarding banking procedures will be forwarded to schools in the near future. To share Day for Change strategies, schools are encouraged to contact Ms Liz Brown, Coordinator Student Wellbeing. Ms Brown can be contacted by telephone on number 02 9266 8445 or by email at liz.brown@det.nsw.edu.au Andrew Cappie-Wood Sort UNICEF Day for Change Resources by Date
