Public Education

Federation supports Public Education day with quarter million dollar campaign

21 May 2009

By

John Hughes

Mr Bob Lipscombe , President NSWTF said today.

"Public Education Day is being celebrated nationally on Thursday 21 May 2009. This day provides an opportunity to highlight and celebrate public education as key component to creating a prosperous economy, a harmonious, vibrant culture and a socially cohesive Australia.

Throughout New South Wales, the local public school is there at the heart of the community, responding to its needs, nurturing its children and developing young adults who are well-educated, motivated and confident in their ability to build a brighter future.

The NSW Teachers Federation has produced promotional materials for display and dissemination on Public Education Day. A brochure for parents is entitled 'How your local public school is achieving for Australia'.

This brochure acknowledges the recent federal government announcements for building infrastructure work and states, 'Our public schools are being made even better. New libraries, halls, classrooms and other facilities are being built to ensure the learning environment matches the commitment, expertise and quality of the staff.'

Two corflute banners for display on school fences state, 'Your public school. The opportunity to excel' and 'A brighter future for Australia starts here.'

The cost of the promotional material and the TV and Radio advertisments is over a quarter of a million dollars.

Public Education Day also provides the opportunity to acknowledge the dedicated and highly qualified teachers working tirelessly to provide quality learning opportunities for students.

Public Education Day is a time to assert that public schools are deserving of a substantial priority investment from government in recognition of what public education means to each individual child and the nation as a whole."said Mr Lipscombe
