Building the Education Revolution

03 June 2009

Public school communities across NSW seek the support of state and federal Members of Parliament on a range of issues arising from the implementation of the Federal Government's $14.7 billion Building the Education evolution (BER) schools infrastructure investment.

The following issues must be addressed urgently to maximise the benefits of this investment for NSW public school students:

Science and Language Centres (SLC) for 21st Century Secondary Schools

Unlike the Primary Schools for the 21st Century capital works program and the National Schools Pride minor works and maintenance program, the Science and Language Centres program does not include all schools in that category and is not enrolments-based.

Applications are to be considered by the Commonwealth on criteria including need and disadvantage. One quarter of applications must be rated by the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) as high priority, one half as medium priority and one quarter as low priority.
