NSW public school teachers continue to reject any attempt by federal and state governments to impose educationally unsound student reports.
Federation's ban remains in place. The ban upholds the right to professional decision-making on educational grounds.
Thank you to the nearly 700 schools who were able to respond to the Federation's survey in the last few days of 2006. The survey shows the campaign is succeeding and that schools compiled their reports in a wide range of different ways, using their professional judgement based on the needs of their students and the context of their schools, rather than political dictates.
In January 2007, the Department discontinued its case in the Industrial Relations Commission in the full knowledge that Federation's ban remains in place. The Commission asked the parties to "commit to a common goal that the issue be resolved for reports in 2007". To date the NSW State Government has refused to negotiate about the issue.
A comprehensive advice about student reports will be sent to schools as soon as possible.
Federation thanks all members for their commitment to this campaign. Federation will continue to provide its full support to all members as the campaign continues.
