DET Learning Support Trial - Illawarra and South East Region - Terms 2 & 3 2010

01 July 2010

Recently the DET sent a "Newsletter" to all Principals concerning the "Trial". This Newsletter outlined the formation of a Working Party and State Reference Group, details of the independent evaluation of the trial and ongoing discussions with stakeholder organisations concerning the DET Learning Support proposal.

The following statements in the Newsletter should be noted, "The evaluation will provide insights into the efficacy of the model to inform any future decision to implement the program state-wide...." No such decision has been made. Any decision in relation to implementation will be made by the Minister not the DET. That decision will be made in the context of a State election in March 1011.The evaluation process has commenced.

The Newsletter also states that, "Throughout the trial the working party will continue to consider the methodologies used to allocate... teaching positions and funding to school." In these discussions the Federation has continued to debate the DET proposals. That process will continue.

The full text of the DET Newsletter is attached for the information of members.
