Two schools, two sites

Despite overwhelming opposition by parents, carers, teachers and the school communities the Minister for Education, Adrian Piccoli, has decided to relocate Gosford Public School on the same grounds as Henry Kendall High School.

The schools will not be separated and in one building secondary students will occupy the ground floor with primary students on the first floor.  This will mean that more than 500 primary students and 900 secondary students will be sharing some of the same facilities and play areas.  The existing Special Education Unit will be moved to refurbished Design and Technology and Visual Arts rooms.

The decision appears to be based on cost cutting.  The leaked “Boston Consulting Group” Report to the previous State Government leaked to the media in March this year has pointed to millions of dollars in savings by amalgamating primary schools with nearby secondary schools.  We cannot allow student’s learning opportunities to be sacrificed to save money.
