Barry Johnson - General Secretary

As you would be aware, Barry Johnson has been elected as the General Secretary of the NSW Teachers Federation by February Council.

In his capacity as Assistant General Secretary (Schools), Barry has been the Officer attached to the Central Schools Committee for the past eleven years.

Because of this association the profile of central schools has been maintained in discussions within the Federation and with the Department.

This had not always been possible where these discussions were with those who did not have firsthand experience with the operations of a central school.

His contributions have ensured that our working conditions have not been overlooked in negotiations with the Department.

During his time with the Committee the Secondary Executive Restructuring has allowed many centrals to gain a Deputy Principal and additional Head Teachers; issues of split sites have been addressed; transfer rights for teachers in central schools have been improved and whole school staffing provisions have been strengthened.

Authorised by John Hennessy, General Secretary, NSW Teachers Federation, 23-33 Mary Street, Surry Hills, NSW 2010
