Separate staffing sought for primary and infants classes
The Public Education Alliance has been lobbying the NSW Government for the re-introduction of discrete staffing for K-2 (infants) and 3-6 (primary) classes.
The Alliance is made up of the Primary Principals Association, Public Schools Principals Forum, Federation of Parents and Citizens (P&C) Associations, Secondary Principals Council and Federation.
The Alliance wrote to then-Minister Carmel Tebbutt on February 27, outlining the need for discrete staffing. The NSW Government has refused to fund the additional teachers required.
Discrete staffing was abolished by the Greiner Government in 1988.
Federation faxed a resolution to Federation Representatives and principals in schools on August 21 for them to sign (along with the local P&C president) and send to Education Minister John Della Bosca.
