Day 1 is the day for salaries
By Dennis Long
The 2008 school and TAFE year will begin with a focus on salaries.
Members in all workplaces will be consulted to finalise Federation's salaries claim.
A special mailout will be sent to all workplaces to arrive by January 29. Members will be asked to consider a range of issues and Fed Reps will report the results to the Federation.
Federation meetings in schools and OCAA sites will also need to consider a resolution about the staffing system.
The union has put the state government on notice that it expects a new award to be negotiated and in place before the expiry of the current award on December 31, 2008.
Members are advised that industrial action may be necessary in 2008.
There are two pay rises due in 2008. The first applies across the board (four per cent) on the first pay period on or after January 1, 2008. In order to maximise full pay/superannuation et cetera entitlements, members must not retire or resign before January 11, 2008.
The second pay increase affects those who are part of the promotions restructuring (assistant principal and PP6 to head teacher salary and deputy principal primary and PP5 to deputy principal high school salary) from the first pay period on or after July 1, 2008. In order to receive their full entitlements members must not retire or resign before July 11, 2008.
