Course to discuss GLBT networks
By Frank Barnes
Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) teachers who are financial members of the Federation are invited to apply for a GLBT Trade Union Training course at Federation House Sydney on Thursday-Friday February 28-29.
(The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras will be held on Saturday March 1.)
Two recent events make this course of great importance:
- the unfortunate homophobic bashings on Oxford Street
- the lack of education in our schools on homophobia.
This second issue was raised at the Rainbow Conversation Conference held in Melbourne January 30-31 in conjunction with the Asia Pacific Outgames.
The course will look at our approach on issues for teachers and students.
The course has also been designed with the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) to discuss networks and support mechanisms for teachers in rural settings.
Application forms are available on the Federation website, by email to tut@nswtf.org.au or telephone Trade Union Training on 1300 654 369 or (02) 9217 2100.
Frank Barnes is a City Organiser.
