Membership and recruitment news

New teachers welcomed to the union
The recruitment of new members is going very well with Federation's Project Officers visiting many new teacher meetings and talking to graduating teachers at universities. There was a recruitment blitz in the St Marys-Mt Druitt area and the Barrier Teachers Association had a one-day course on a Saturday to welcome all new teachers to Broken Hill.
Senior Vice President Gary Zadkovich spoke at the Barrier meeting about the current staffing dispute with the Department of Education and Training (DET). This takes on added significance to these new teachers who went to the Barrier on the information told to them last year by DET officials based on the then staffing agreement that the DET now wish to rip up.
Trip for two to Paris
The incentives of the Federation paying the NSW Institute of Teachers fee for their first year and the promotion of winning a trip for two to Paris seem to be working well, with more than 300 people already in the barrel with the chance to win this fabulous trip. Remember that to enter you either need to join Federation or recruit a new member to Federation.
Trip for two to the Barossa Valley
Every year Federation sends out the Fed Rep register to all workplaces. It represents vital information to the union on who are the office holders in each workplace. In the current dispute with the Iemma Government around staffing it is even more important that the union knows who the current Federation Representative at each workplace is.
Federation understands and appreciates the work involved in this task but if you haven't yet had a chance to fill it in and return it to the union by fax, please do so.
All Federation Representatives who return their Fed Rep register by the end of term 1 will go in the draw to win a trip for two to the Barossa Valley, including airfares from Sydney and two nights accommodation in the Novotel Barossa Resort. The Novotel Barossa is one of the premier resorts of the area.
Those Federation Representatives who have already returned their Fed Rep registers have automatically been included in the draw.
John Dixon is Assistant General Secretary (Communications and Administration).
