Sky Channel stopwork meeting September 2
By Sally Edsall
Teachers in all sectors of public education are taking stopwork action for up to two hours on Tuesday September 2.
Sky Channel meetings, starting at 9am, will hear reports from Federation Senior Officers and vote on future action.
This stopwork is called to make clear to the NSW Government that teachers will not accept a cut in living standards, dismantling of an effective system of statewide school staffing and transfers, or removal of the requirement for permanent TAFE teachers to have university level teacher education qualifications. As well, there are major restructuring issues for members in AMES and Corrective Services.
At the time of going to print there was still no offer from the Government on salaries beyond 2.5 per cent per annum. Inflation is currently 4.5 per cent. This would mean a cut in real salary for teachers.
School teachers across the state have been campaigning vigorously against the unilateral changes made by Government to the staffing and transfer system. Members have made emphatic representations to the Director-General, Michael Coutts-Trotter in many locations. The Premier has been called on to resolve the dispute on numerous occasions.
The campaign for restitution of qualification standards in TAFE also continues.
Venues for Sky Channel meetings are available on Federation's website (www.nswtf.org.au).
