Salary maintenance win
By Diane Hague
The Department has finally agreed with Federation that TAFE senior head teachers (old classification) and head teachers (old and new classification) who lose their positions and have to regress to either Band 1 head teacher or teacher will have salary maintenance for 12 months.
The salary maintenance will commence from the beginning of the academic year in which they regress.
This issue was the subject of exhaustive negotiations last year but it was not until Federation lodged a dispute in the Industrial Relations Commission that the Department was prepared to consider Federation's position.
The salary maintenance provisions do not apply, however, to newly created head teachers Band 2 who may subsequently have to regress to Band 1, except in the case of directed transfer.
The provisions commence from the beginning of the 2001 academic year for those members who may be at risk of losing their promotions positions.
Diane Hague is an Industrial Officer.
