Teachers are reminded that in 2004 Federation will be offering 10 scholarships to the value of $2000 each.
These scholarships will be awarded to tertiary students undertaking courses in education who intend to teach in public schools on completion of their degree. Successful applicants need to show a commitment to public education and an understanding of the important role played by unions in society.
Of the 10 scholarships awarded:
- two will be awarded to applicants from rural/remote areas of NSW
- two will be awarded to applicants in their first year of an undergraduate education course
- two will be awarded to applicants who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
The remaining four scholarships are from an unrestricted category.
Teacher Trainee Scholarships are for one year only and are to be used for educational expenses.
Applications should include a short statement of 600 words maximum, demonstrating an understanding of the value of public education and unions to society and, where appropriate, evidence of university admission, financial circumstances, and other documents considered relevant.
Information about the scholarships can be obtained from your Federation Representative.
Trainee Teacher Scholarships kits will also be forwarded on request from the Women's Co-ordinator, Siobhan Callan. Please phone (02) 9217 2152 or free call 1300 654 369 or download the material from the Federation website at www.nswtf.org.au.
