Separation information updated
By by Rod Brown
Welfare leaflets related to separation from the teaching service, covering resignation, retirement, and medicals and medical retirement, have been updated for the information of members.
Among the changes are notes on Department of Education and Training administrative arrangements, such as the referral of all separation applications through the Child Protection Investigation Directorate (CPID).
The leaflets have been written to be used across schools and TAFE.
The most extensive amendments reflect the diverse superannuation arrangements of members, recognising that both of the older schemes were closed to new members more than 10 years ago. This is relevant in the receipt of some benefits of both the State Superannuation Scheme (SSS) (the "old scheme") and the State Authorities Superannuation Scheme (SAS) (the "middle scheme"). Information on the employer funded Basic Benefit for members of both these schemes is also provided.
Apart from members of the older schemes, all other teachers are covered by the Superannuation Guarantee, the minimum level of superannuation that an employer must provide for employees. This may be paid into any Commonwealth regulated fund nominated by the employee, otherwise it will be paid to First State Super.
Printed copies of these and the Federation's other welfare leaflets are available to members by contacting Federation's Communication's Room or via the Members Area of Federation's website.
