PPTW strike salary deductions under investigation

By John Irving

Recent strike salary deductions for permanent part time work (PPTW) members are being investigated by Federation.

There are two aspects to the investigation. Firstly, the 1/10 salary deduction as against 1/14 deduction for permanent members, for one day strikes and the calculation of the pro rata holiday pay reduction. While permanent members generally lose ¼ day pro rata holiday pay, PPTW members have lost much more.

Federation will meet with Department of Education and Training Officers to discuss a TAFE arrangement whereby non permanent members are deducted 1/14 not 1/10 of their salary for authorised industrial action of one day and also meet to determine the validity of the pro rata deductions for PPTW members.

John Irving is the Assistant General Secretary (Schools).
