Women to march on the 13th

By Siobhan Callan

All Federation women are encouraged to celebrate and acknowledge International Women's Day on March 8. The annual march in Sydney will commence at 11am on Saturday March 13.

Women will assemble for the march at Town Hall and then proceed to Hyde Park where there will be music, entertainment, food and stalls. Speakers include author Anne Summers and MP Linda Burney. Please look out for the Federation banners and join us at this important event.

Also, the International Women's Development Agency will be holding its yearly Women's Breakfast at Sydney Town Hall on Saturday March 13. The breakfast starts at 8am and finishes around 10.30am. This event is always lively and entertaining. Tickets are $40 and proceeds this year go towards an education campaign to stop the trafficking of young girls on the Thai-Burma border. Phone 1300 139588 for more information.

A range of other activities will be held across NSW during the week of March 8 to March 14. For information about these events you can refer to the NSW Department for Women's website at www.women.nsw.gov.au.

If you would like to celebrate International Women's Day in your school, there are some great teaching ideas on the United Nations "Cyber School Bus" website. Resources have a focus this year on women, peace and politics and can be found at www.un.org/cyberschoolbus/womensday.

For further information on International Women's Day please contact Siobhan Callan on (02) 9217 2152.

Siobhan Callan is the Women's Coordinator.
