It’s great to be public
Western Liverpool District Performing Arts Festival has focussed on the greatness of being a public school and values taught in public schools.
The production, Children Rule the World, took place at Glenquarie Community Centre and Macquarie Fields on August 25 and 26. There were three performances with an audience total of more than 1500 people.
Festival director and Bonnyrigg Heights Public School teacher George Younan said his vision for this year's festival came just after "an amazing Public Education Day at our school".
"We focussed on the great things that our classes bring to public education and the things that make us unique. I am an active federation member and I truly believe in our schools, so I made a daring decision to write this year's festival based on the greatness of being a public school," Mr Younan said.
"The production is based on the journey of children's storybooks and how the values of public education and quality teaching and learning are an integral part of who we are," Mr Younan said.
Values taught at public schools, highlighted in the production included integrity, excellence, respect, responsibility, cooperation, participation, care, fairness and democracy.
The production was brought to life by drama, singing and dance.
"There were 12 primary public schools involved in the festival this year, as well as some dedicated students from James Meehan High School," Mr Younan said.
"With over 600 students, 12 principals, 72 teachers and helpers the Festival was an amazing success," Mr Younan said.
