12 per cent flows on to small awards
By Brenda Seymour
Award increases in salaries, rates of pay and allowances for members in various sites have been settled.
The Awards provide for the flow-on of 12 percent salaries, rates of pay and allowances increases for members at Bradfield College, in the Adult Migrant English Service, at Saturday Schools, in the Australian Music Examination Board Service, at the Office of the Board of Studies and employed as Institute Managers, HSC and School Certificate markers and related employees.
Members covered by these awards received 5.5 per cent of their pay increase on January 1, 2004. The residual increases of 3.0 per cent on July 1, 2004 and 3.5 per cent on January 1, 2005 are to follow.
Officers of the Federation, particularly in the Industrial Section, worked during the recent school vacation to settle the awards.
As part of the settlements Federation has claimed increases for promotions positions classifications in the awards which are additional to the 12 per cent. As the promotions positions claims cannot be settled by consent these claims will be arbitrated by the Industrial Relations Commission in February and March 2005.
In terms of the implementation of the three per cent salaries, rates of pay and allowances increases effective from the first pay period to commence on or after July 1, 2004 for teachers (other than those covered by the National Art School Award), the Department proposed for the awards to which they are the employer party that the new rates would be paid in the pay of October 21 and that arrears will be also included in that pay.
Federation is yet to settle when the Office of the Board of Studies award increases will be given effect.
Federation has sought the assistance of its members to provide affidavits to the Industrial Relations Commission to support the claims for the extra increases for promotions classifications.
Again officers of Federation worked over the recent school vacation to finalise these affidavits.
Settlement of the National Art School Award and the provision of almost 700 additional year advisers to schools is still under negotiation.
Brenda Seymour is the Assistant General Secretary (Research and Industrial).
