Incremental credit rules to change
ANGELO GAVRIELATOS reports on changes to incremental credit to teachers on employment or re-employment.
For many years Federation has been seeking improvements in the area related to incremental credit to teachers on employment or re-employment.
In September the Department of Education and Training (DET) to Federation advising that effective from day 1, term 1, 2005 teachers who seek re-employment following a break in employment from DET no longer suffer a deduction in increments at the point of re-employment.
DET has also advised that casual or temporary teachers with fewer than 203 days service at the point of permanent employment will have those days recognised for the purpose of incremental progression at the point of attaining 203 teaching days of combined casual temporary service and subsequent permanent teaching service.
Whilst these changes were supported Federation opposed DET's decision to extinguish the policy whereby incremental credit was granted for full time service at age 21 or more in any paid occupation outside teaching, replacing it with a policy to "provide incremental credit for relevant non teaching service as determined by the DET under specified targeted recruitment strategies". NB Teachers who commenced permanent employment prior to day 1, term 1, 2005, but request a salary review after that date, will have their incremental credit determined under the current policy.
Angelo Gavrielatos is the Senior Vice President.
