Mighty fundraising effort
By Kerri Carr
Terrey Hills Public School has made the largest donation ever received by Stewart House from a single event from a primary school, following a fundraising 'duathlon'.
Stewart House marketing assistant Sophia Hill said Terrey Hills Public School donated $8,116.30 after the children obtained sponsors for the event.
She described the school's donation as an "amazing effort".
"They were innovative and highly energetic!" Ms Hill said.
Terrey Hills Public School principal Elizabeth Bennett said the duathlon was held every second year, with money raised always going to Stewart House.
The event also forms part of the school's bike safety and school fitness program.
"Normally the fundraising is good, but it was outstanding this time."
The school's 250 students, from kindergarten to year 6 participated.
Students cycled around the school grounds and ran on the school's running track.
"Some children ran or cycled up to 10 km in the time allowed," Ms Bennett said.
"One of the granddads was on hand to repair bike breakdowns.
"Parents and teachers were on hand with drinks and encouragement."
Money raised was presented to the Stewart House principal Rodney Yates at a school assembly.
"Terry Hills Public School has taken fundraising for Stewart House very seriously," Ms Hill said.
