Lyndsay Connors.

High expectations for Women's Conference

By Siobhan Callan

Prominent Australian educationalist and public education advocate Lyndsay Connors will speak at the Federation Women's Conference on May 21.

Ms Connors will speak about work undertaken for the recent report of the NSW Public Education Council, Building on Strong Foundations, about the direction public education needs to take for the future, and discuss important issues in relation to the increasingly demanding expectations placed upon women teachers in our public schools.

Workshops at the Conference will be based around issues of concern to women teachers as both workers and educators, particularly in the climate of looming changes to industrial relations legislation after July 1.

The Conference theme for this year is "Union Women Working Together". Topics for workshops include women and activism, working with local communities, changes to industrial relations legislation, and the role of new activist networks in the union.

The Conference will be held at the Guthrie Theatre, University of Technology, Harris Street, Sydney.

All financial women members of the Federation are welcome to attend.

Federation will fund one female delegate from each country association and five country delegates from TAFE.

Please check to see that your Association has registered delegates for the Women's Conference.

If you have further inquiries, please contact Siobhan Callan, Women's Coordinator on (02) 9217 2152 or toll free 1300 654 369.

Federation looks forward to seeing both experienced and first time women teacher activists on May 21.

Siobhan Callan is Women's Coordinator.
