August Anna Stewart Program vacancies

By Siobhan Callan

Women teacher activists are encouraged to apply for two vacant positions for term 3, 2005.

The positions are for two weeks in August, commencing Monday August 1 and finishing on Friday August 12.

The Anna Stewart Program is a union affirmative action program that allows committed Federation women members to observe the work of a range of Federation Officers at Federation House in Surry Hills, Sydney.

The program is supported by the Department of Education and Training (DET) and participating women members will continue to be paid by DET for the two week period with Federation paying the cost of casual relief. Country members selected for the program will be provided with accommodation for the duration of the program.

The two week Anna Stewart positions allow for women members to develop an understanding of Federation processes and practices, as well as to undertake a variety of activities, from attending meetings with the Department to observing cases in the Industrial Relations Commission and attending meetings of Federation Executive and Council. Application forms can be obtained by telephoning Women's Coordinator Siobhan Callan on (02) 9217 2152 or toll free 1300 654 369. The closing date for the August two week positions is Wednesday July 13.

Please note that further Anna Stewart positions will be advertised at the beginning of term 3, 2005.

These positions will be for two weeks around Federation September Council and also for the 10 week positions in Term 4, 2005. These positions will be advertised after the Federation Anna Stewart Committee gives consideration to changes to the Anna Stewart program in line with recent decisions of Council and strategies to provide for greater involvement of Aboriginal women members in the program.

Siobhan Callan is the Women's Coordinator.

An awesome journey
