Parents honoured by school
Parents and community members are an integral part of her school writes LILA MULARCZYK.
Throughout the school year, parents, students and staff can be seen learning and teaching together, rehearsing performances, creating costumes, in classrooms, singing and dancing; supporting and coaching teams; reading together, monitoring learning outcomes and making decisions and policy as a school community to name a few activities.
As decision-makers, teachers and learners, parent leaders at Merrylands High School contribute to P&C, Aboriginal Student Support and Parent Awareness, sport, tutoring, Chess Club, Pacific Islander Group, International Peace Day, Arabic Group, Afghan Group, African Group and as canteen volunteers.
Our school community acknowledges the success of parents, students and staff working together to develop strong, trusting and focused relationships. This has been developed through a myriad of committees, interest groups, sporting events, theme days, cultural groups, leadership forums and programs, school performances and information exchange activities.
Each year on Public Education Day, Merrylands High School hosts "The parents in Public Education Morning Tea".
This year more than 80 parents were acknowledged for their invaluable contribution to the school, in front of an audience of hundreds of staff and students.
It is a great honour to work in such a caring, dedicated and devoted school community.
Lila Mularczyk teaches at Merrylands HS.
