Community gets behind fire victims

The Bathurst community has raised more than $50,000 to help the Kelso High School community after the school was guttered by fire on August 18.

The Alumni and Community Appeal has several local businesses and the other high school in town collecting goods and money.

Books Plus and Angus & Robertson in Bathurst are collecting for an urgent appeal to provide dictionaries or books to students in years 7-12. You can donate money directly for the KHS Book Appeal via Books Plus, telephone (02) 6331 5994 or Angus & Robertson (02) 6332 4255.

Radio station Stereo 2BS is running an appeal and taking donations on phone (02) 6331 7777.

Bathurst High School is collecting goods such as second hand books and desks which can be dropped off Bathurst High School, corner of Hope and Piper streets.

Messages of support to be put on noticeboards for Kelso staff and students can be sent via fax to (02) 6332 2302, emailed to paul.stirling@det.nsw.edu.au or mailed to Kelso High School, c/o Bathurst High PO Box 494 Bathurst 2795.

Currently students are being taught at different locations across town.

It is anticipated that a school made out of portable classrooms will be built by the beginning of term 4, but the school will take several years to re-build.
