Relief entitlements guaranteed
By John Irving
Negotiations between Federation and the Department of Education and Training have now clarified and guaranteed the entitlements to release from face to face teaching.
Many local area relief ("Flying Squad") teachers and rural area relief teachers, because of the nature of their work, had not necessarily been receiving their correct entitlements to release from face to face teaching.
Calculation of the RFF
Local Area Relief or Rural Area Relief teachers will accrue 24 minutes release from face to face (RFF) entitlement for each day worked on classroom teaching duties or the equivalent of two hours per week. This entitlement, as provided for under the revised RFF memorandum issued November 1987, will accumulate until one whole day or 4.75 hours of RFF can be granted.
Teachers will be allocated their RFF entitlement by Casual.Direct. Casual.Direct will provide as much notice as necessary to allow the teacher to prepare for their RFF entitlement.
In the event that the LAR or RAR teacher works at the same school on a one week block period, the RFF entitlement will not be accrued but allocated by the school from the schools regular RFF entitlement.
Use of RFF entitlement
Teachers will attend their base school on the day that RFF is allocated.
The principal or nominee of the base school will be responsible for monitoring, supporting and supervising teachers taking their RFF entitlement.
Casual and Temporary Teacher Programs Unit will calculate the total RFF entitlement for LAR and RAR teachers employed in 2005. Casual.Direct will manage LAR and RAR teachers RFF allocation.
John Irving is the Assistant General Secretary (Schools).
