Library industrial action averted
By Henry Rajendra
Rooty Hill High School teachers voted to postpone their industrial action scheduled for September 12 due to a proposal put forward by Education Minister Carmel Tebbutt.
Teachers were planning to strike to lobby for a purpose built library facility, something the school has lacked since the school was built 43 years ago.
Ms Tebbutt wrote to the school confirming that funding has been approved to allow the development of a plan to improve library facilities at the school. The plan will enable a concept design, a detailed scope of works and an accurate estimate of cost to be prepared in consultation with the school community.
Further, the Minister has agreed to meet with a delegation from the school to discuss the school's library facilities.
Federation Representative Dean Newbold said: "Teachers welcome the Minister's commitments that will progress the school's campaign for a purpose built library. The school community is to be congratulated on their collective strength and determination throughout this ongoing campaign."
Henry Rajendra is the Membership Officer/Organiser.
