Working conditions

Enhanced leave conditions pursued

By Brenda Seymour

Federation has commenced negotiations with the Department of Education and Training (DET) regarding the implementation of the enhanced leave conditions commencing in 2006, which include maternity leave. These enhanced conditions are part of the new agreements for school and TAFE teachers.

These enhanced conditions have already been implemented for members covered by the Public Service Association (PSA) and there is already publicly accessible implementation documents for these workers. For example, for PSA members, 28 weeks maternity leave at half pay or a combination of half and full pay are available options to the 14 weeks at full pay.

Federation has sought this flexibility in provision for teachers. The union has received telephone inquiries from members keen to access the enhanced provisions from January 1, 2006.

Federation will publish the agreed implementation for teachers as soon as it is available.

Brenda Seymour is the Assistant General Secretary (Research and Industrial).
