Author and journalist Nadia Jamal will discuss "After Cronulla -- Being an Australian of Islamic faith and Lebanese heritage" at a Friday Forum on May 5.
Ms Jamal has been a journalist at the Sydney Morning Herald since 1997, and is currently night chief of staff. She has worked on the world desk, helping to coordinate coverage of major events including the war in Iraq, and editing the daily pages. She has also been the Herald's education and urban affairs writer. Nadia is the co-author of a new book titled The Glory Garage -- Growing up Lebanese Muslim in Australia. She is also studying law.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Nicholas Cowdery will address the June 2 Friday Forum about criminal justice and politics.
Mr Cowdery has been the DPP in NSW since 1994. Prior to that he was a barrister in private practice for 19 years (including periods as an acting Judge of the District Court) and before that a Public Defender in Papua New Guinea. He is immediate past president of the International Association of Prosecutors and has been involved in issues concerning the criminal law and human rights at domestic and international levels for over 35 years.
Friday Forums are designed to discuss the equity issues that matter to educators. The above Friday Forums will be held at Teachers Federation House between 5-7pm.
