Women’s Conference to address many issues
By Siobhan Callan
"Women Teacher Unionists: Active and Professional" is the theme for Federation's Women's Conference, to be held in Sydney on May 20.
All financial women members of the Federation are invited to attend including experienced women activists and members attending for the first time.
The Conference will focus on issues relevant to women members as unionists and as teachers.
Speakers will include AEU Deputy Federal Secretary and formerly AEU Federal Aboriginal Education Officer Darcel Moyle. She will speak about reconciliation and her own experiences as an Aboriginal woman, union activist and union officer.
Conference workshops will be based around such topics as workplace bullying, women and superannuation, changes to industrial relations legislation, reconciliation and teachers' working conditions.
A post-conference dinner is being organised. It is always a great way for women members to relax at the end of a very productive day.
Registration papers were included in the last mailout to Association Secretaries and are also available from Federation Women's Coordinator Siobhan Callan on (02) 9217 2100 or toll free 1300 654 369.
Country Associations are reminded that Federation will fund one woman delegate from each Country Association. Five Country Aboriginal delegates as well as five TAFE women delegates will also be funded by Federation. Members are asked to register early to facilitate travel and accommodation arrangements.
Siobhan Callan is the Women's Coordinator.
