Special features promote public education
Special features will appear in newspapers in support of Education Week (May 15 to 21).
Wrap-arounds between eight and 16 pages will appear on the Cumberland Newspaper Group publications and a 12-page feature in the Friday magazine inserted into The Land is planned.
The Land has a print run of 63,000 and reaches 87 per cent of broad acre farmers.
Federation is running full page ads (see right) as part of the features.
Federation and the Department of Education and Training are working together to develop the features that will showcase public education, featuring stories and photographs.
Federation encourages schools to support, as appropriate, this special initiative.
Two special events during Education Week are Public Education Day and Back to School Day.
Public Education Day, May 18, is an occasion to highlight and celebrate the great achievement of public schools.
Observed nationally, Public Education Day is also a call to all citizens for advocacy and action in support of greater investment in public education from state and federal governments.
Given the role of public schools in shaping our cohesive democratic society it is entirely fitting that citizens should call on all elected representatives to preserve the quality of public education.
On Public Education Day Professor Tony Vinson will be releasing a research paper on the importance of pre-school education. The research paper is called "A Good Start for Every Child's Education; Australia's Obligation and the National Dividend".
Back to School Day, May 16, is an initiative of the Education Foundation and supported by Federation and the Department of Education and Training. Back to School Day (see poster below right) provides an opportunity to communicate with the local communities and raise awareness of your school and build on-going links with former students.
