Rallies planned for Blacktown and regional centres on June 28

By Dennis Long

A rally at Blacktown Showground and march to the office of Liberal MP Louise Markus is expected to be the highlight of events planned around NSW for June 28 to support the Your Rights at Work campaign.

A group of trade unionists in Bathurst and the Central West are planning a lunchtime event in Machatti Park.

Newcastle unionists are rallying at the Newcastle Panthers Club from 10am.

Wollongong workers will assemble in Lowden Square for a march at noon.

A rally will be held at the Goulburn Workers Club from 8.30am.

In Armidale, members of the community will rally in Beardy Street opposite the TAFE college from 12.30pm.

A rally is planned for outside Liberal MP Joanna Gash's office in Nowra from 12.30pm.

Members should contact their Federation Organiser for details of rallies planned by Unions NSW for other regional centres.

The Blacktown Showground rally starts at 9am and is the focus for Federation members in the Sydney region. All Federation workplaces in the 15 school association areas nearest to Blacktown have been authorised to stop work for half a day to attend. Schools in these Associations are authorised to provide minimal supervision.

Members should contact their Federation Organiser for information about trains and buses to Blacktown.

All Federation workplaces in Sydney are authorised to send delegates to the rally in Blacktown.

All members in Federation workplaces close to a regional rally are also authorised to stop work for half a day to attend, but members should contact their Federation Organiser for advice and further details.

Schools that stop work for half a day are authorised to provide minimal supervision.

All other Federation workplaces are authorised to send delegates to a rally where this is feasible. Federation understands that for some workplaces it will not be feasible to attend any of the authorised rallies.

Members of Federation Council and Association Executives are also authorised to attend.

All Federation members who stop work will be on strike.

Please contact your Federation Organiser for further information.

Federation is running an ad in the Sydney Morning Herald and the Daily Telegraph on June 21, 27 and 29 in support of the campaign.
