Annual Conference elections — your chance to participate
By John Dixon
The planning and organisation for Annual Conference, scheduled for July 1-3, is well under way.
In the February 26 edition of Education are the election notices for Annual Conference delegates and the remaining Councillor vacancies. Federation is at the beginning of the two-year electoral cycle for delegates to Annual Conference.
The composition of Annual Conference, that is the nature of representation for Associations, is set out in Federation's Rules. Councillors are automatically delegates to the Conference, making up the first part of each Association's entitlement.
Due to the NSW Parliamentary elections the NSW Electoral Commission has requested that the closing date for Annual Conference delegates and the remaining Councillor positions be pushed back by two weeks. This means that there will only be one opportunity to conduct elections for Annual Conference before this year's conference.
Annual Conference is the supreme decision-making forum of the union and members are encouraged to nominate and participate in this year's Conference. Many of the vacancies for delegates are from Country Associations. Delegates elected from Country Associations are entitled to travel and accommodation allowances. Federation also provides childcare for delegates' children.
The February 26 edition of Education contains a list of the Annual Conference Delegate vacancies that exist. Nominations will close at noon on April 11.
That edition of the journal also contains the 19 Councillor vacancies for which the NSW Electoral Commission is currently seeking nominations. Nominations will also close at noon on April 11.
John Dixon is the Assistant General Secretary (Communications and Administration).
