Science and Technology K-6 syllabus review

By Wendy Currie

Federation has been invited to provide a submission to the Board of Studies' review of the K-6 Science and Technology syllabus and revised outcomes.

This syllabus has been in operation since 1991, although the outcomes were revised in 1999. Most primary/infants teachers would agree that the review is timely.

The review is in its preliminary phase. There are no draft documents to comment on and no surveys to fill in. What the Board of Studies requires is an evaluation of the current syllabus and a view from teachers about how and in what way the syllabus needs to be updated.

The full revision process will take three years, but written submissions for this phase are due to the Board of Studies by August 3. Federation urges members to participate in this process, so that the views of public school teachers are heard.

Federation would also like to hear from you, so that the union's submission is informed by the experience and opinions of those teaching this syllabus.

Please send your contributions to the Federation, marked to the attention of Wendy Currie, either by mail or fax.

Wendy Currie is a Research Officer.
