Mardi Gras Fair Day

Location:
Victoria Park, Camperdown, Sydney
Time:
All day

Mardi Gras season is fast approaching.

Like last year, the Federation will again be involved in Mardi Gras by hosting a stall at Fair Day on Sunday 12th February, 2012. This will be the launch of Sydney’s Mardi Gras, and is the biggest community event on the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex community (LGBTI) calendar.

The event is held in Victoria Park, Camperdown. It caters to a range of interests with entertainment, food and information stalls. More than 80,000 people attend Fair Day annually, which provides community groups and organisations the opportunity to recruit, provide information and share resources.

Last year Sydney Mardi Gras updated its name and logo. Previously known as the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, the organisation behind Mardi Gras held consultations with community groups throughout 2010 and 2011 which prompted the change to better reflect the multi-faceted LGBTI community.

The purpose and aims behind Sydney Mardi Gras remains the same, that is, in providing the opportunity to develop and benefit the LGBTI community. LGBTI individuals and groups, and their straight allies, use the Sydney Mardi Gras as a statement of pride and to promote a broader message of diversity and acceptance.

These themes are also reflected in Federation’s policy on Sexual Orientation and Gender Preferred Identity.
