Trainee Teacher Scholarships - 2009

This year twelve Trainee Teacher Scholarships are available from the NSW Teachers Federation with a value of $3000 each. (Two of these scholarships are funded by the Retired Teachers Association.) The NSW Teachers Federation wishes to assist as many aspiring public education teachers as possible. Therefore, previous scholarship holders are not eligible to reapply in subsequent years.

The Trainee Teacher Scholarships are an example of Federation's ongoing support of public education. The Federation is also committed to building and supporting the teaching profession in public schools.

These scholarships are awarded to tertiary students enrolling in a teacher education degree course at a tertiary Institution and who are student members of the Teachers Federation. Successful applicants will also have completed year 12 (or the equivalent) at a public school or TAFE college in NSW.

The NSW Teachers Federation Trainee Teacher Scholarships Committee will award scholarships to two successful applicants from each of the following three categories:

  • trainee teachers who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • trainee teachers from a rural or remote area, distant from the tertiary institution at which they are studying
  • trainee teachers in their first year of a teacher training course

The remaining six scholarships will be from an unrestricted category and applicants may apply for this category as well as the above three categories (if appropriate).
