2004 Trainee Teacher Scholarships
The Federation Trainee Teacher Scholarships program has been expanded for 2004. The Retired Teachers Association has generously offered to fund annually an additional scholarship, valued at $2000. Eleven scholarships will now be offered to trainee teachers with a commitment to public education. The Trainee Teacher Scholarships are an important and successful part of Federation's ongoing support for the future of our public schools.
These scholarships will be awarded to tertiary students undertaking courses in Education, who intend to teach in public schools on completing their degree.
Successful applicants will have demonstrated an understanding of both the value of public education and the important role played by unions in society.
Of the 11 scholarships to be awarded:
- two will be awarded to applicants from rural or remote regions of NSW
- two will be awarded to applicants in their first year of an undergraduate course in education
- two will be awarded to applicants who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- five will be awarded from an unrestricted category (available to all trainee teachers)
Applicants need to include a statement of 600 words which communicates their appreciation of the significance of public education and unions in society. All applications need the endorsement of a teacher currently employed in a NSW public school. Applicants also need to include evidence of university admission.
More detailed information about the scholarships is available through Federation Representatives at all NSW public schools.
