New Activist Country Observer Program Annual Conference 2000 endorsed a policy titled "Our Students Our Future". From this policy a strategy has been developed to support recruitment and activism amongst country teachers. It is envisaged that the 24 teacher activists will attend Council as a group of 8 Country Observers to 3 Councils this year (that is, each Country Observer will attend one Council meeting). The Councils that have been designated for these visits are March 10, June 2, and September 15. The Federation also plans to develop mentor support for these Observers so that they can gain the most of their visit to Council. Finally there is an expectation that these 24 Country Observers will become involved in other forums, as appropriate, at the Council they attend, such as the Women's Caucus (8.30 am before Council) and the New Activists Lunch (advertised on the day of Council). The attached paperwork should be distributed to members of your Association who would benefit most from attending Council, seeing their union at work and gaining an understanding of how Council decisions are made. Your support of this program is essential for its success. The union thanks you in advance for any assistance that you can provide to encourage activism amongst country teachers. Please complete the application form and return to Federation along with the Name and signature of the President/Secretary/Organiser of your Association. For further information, contact David Wynne, Trade Union Training Officer or Charmaine O'Sheades, Women's Co-ordinator, on 9217 2100 or 1300 654 369
