Staffing formula

NSW Teachers Federation is concerned that the staffing formula for infants/primary is grossly inequitable.

Previously they were staffed under a separate formula. When this was abandoned it led to the loss of 1100 teaching positions in schools across the state.

Educational outcomes have shown great improvement since K-2 class sizes have been reduced, but large 2/3 composites still occur in many schools. Composite classes are inevitable in many primary schools. Cross stage composites are particularly problematic and cause great organisational and educational difficulties for all concerned.

NSW Teachers Federation demands that the separate staffing formula be reinstated. The Federation will formulate an appropriate campaign to advance this demand.
