Bowraville wins awards for excellence

Last year Bowraville Central won the Cohesive Community Award for setting up the Bowraville Community Alliance. There are many issues in the community that need addressing as it has low socio economic status and great needs.

This year the school won a National Award for Quality Schooling of $20,000 for outstanding achievement in school improvement for its work in shifting from a welfare driven to a learning driven culture. DET Director-General Andrew Cappie-Wood stated in a letter to the school (March 13): "I understand the project focused on innovative changes to school structures and practices as well as professional development and the school's role in a highly successful community alliance project. The resulting improvements to students' academic and social outcomes, as well as an increased level of support and involvement from the Bowraville community are a tremendous outcome for the school."
