Garages to replace carports

by Owen Hasler

Lock-up garages will replace Teacher Housing Authority carports at Narrabri damaged by a January storm.

Teacher Housing Authority Manager Ken Parker made the announcement earlier this month.

The delay in notification and on-ground work had been caused by negotiations with THA's insurers and in securing a development application from Narrabri Council.

Tenders have been called for the construction of the garages and they will be available following a 10 week construction period.

Since the storm, Narrabri High School industrial arts head teacher Ian McGregor and his fellow THA tenants have had no carport or security storage area.

In hearing of this news Mr McGregor said that the tenants welcomed the belated announcement.

"It was a surprise to hear the news but we are very pleased that THA have made this very sensible decision of secure garages to replace the old carports," Mr McGregor said.

However, Mr McGregor, still awaits repairs to his vehicle, also damaged in the storm.
