Looking for common sense on incentive transfers
Incentive transfers are an educational lifeline for remote communities. Lightning Ridge Central School teacher Timothy Sawyer is not in favour of the changes as proposed by the Department of Education and Training and government. "I do hope common sense will prevail and encourage teachers to choose to come here in the future in order to gain experience and expertise in their chosen career. "It is the students in communities such as this who will suffer as a result of the proposed changes, if they are successfully forced upon teachers." Mr Sawyer currently has an active incentive transfer and is hoping for a placement to the South Coast. "I have enjoyed my time at 'The Ridge' and have been happy to have worked here. "My family has also enjoyed our stay at the Ridge but it is time to move on." "The staffing system which I commenced work under is what I agreed on when I was offered a scholarship at university," he also said.
