Government advertising criticised

Federation has run radio ads contrasting the Howard Government's extensive advertising campaigns with the underfunding of public education.

The advertising ran May 25-29 in metropolitan Sydney on 2DAY-FM, 2WS, 2MMM, 2UE and Nova as well as 37 regional stations statewide.

The following is the text of the radio ad:

"The Howard Government has wasted enormous sums of money on advertising whilst starving our public schools of vital funding.
"What is wrong with the Government? Don't they understand that if our country is to successfully compete in world markets we must be a highly educated nation?
"To protect our lifestyle and future prosperity, more must be spent on our great public education system. We need to be a clever country."

The radio ads were complemented by strip advertisements in newspapers.
