Tired of Government’s attitude

Kegworth Public School teachers stopped work on November 20 to protest the Government's attitude to Federation's 25 per cent salary claim.

Federation Representative Linda Eisler said: "This was not an easy decision for us to make, we are dedicated teachers. However, we feel that for the future of public education we need to take this action. With up to a third of teachers retiring in the next few years it is vital that there be an increase in salaries if quality teachers are to be attracted to the profession."

Ms Eisler also said teachers were also anxious to see the money for their salaries claim come from the Treasury and not the Education budget.

"Where would they cut? What's left to cut? Promised reduced class sizes? Maintenance? The already nonexistent professional development? Teachers are tired of the Government's attitude to teachers. It is not just denigrating teachers, but also children. What is their future, our society's future, without a decent education?" Ms Eisler said.
