Industrial action with more to come

Griffith High School teachers vote to take further action.
Griffith High School teachers vote to take further action.

Teachers at both Wade and Griffith high schools sent a strong message to the Department of Education and Training and NSW Government on March 17 about the need for a continuance of the present statewide staffing system.

Both schools held stopwork meetings to consider the effects of proposed changes to the NSW public schools staffing system.

At Griffith High school, 53 staff attended the stopwork meeting and 43 out of 45 staff did the same at Wade High School. Support for the current system was high as was the level of concern over what the future holds for individual teachers and schools.

The events attracted strong media attention including a front page article in the local paper and a very supportive editorial in the same.

Teachers in both schools are to be commended on their efforts as are the Federation Representatives at each school who chaired the meetings.
