Forum to seek last word in education debate
Federation is holding a forum at 4.30pm on Wednesday October 31 at Parramatta Town Hall, with members strongly encouraged to attend.
The event was put back an extra half an hour from the original 4pm so more people could make it.
The forum seeks to ensure that public education is firmly in the voting public's mind as a national priority and that the teaching profession has "the last word" on what is best for public education, and what is needed from any future government.
The outcome of the federal election and the subsequent policies on public education and industrial relations will define the kind of Australian society we and our students will be living in for decades to come.
The forum will call for a high quality public education system through increased funding; and reject individual contracts and loss of tenure, job and pay security.
ACTU President Sharan Burrow will be a guest speaker at the forum.
