Former ACTU Secretary and ALP candidate for Charlton Greg Combet has signed the Public Education Pledge calling for significantly increased targeted funding for public schools.

He accepted an invitation to attend the Lake Macquarie Teachers Association Executive meeting on September 4.

Lake Macquarie Teachers Association Secretary Steve Kelly outlined the Federation's concerns about the current Federal Government's under-funding of public education.

Mr Combet stated that he was a product of the public education system having attended Eastern Creek Public School and Rooty Hill High School and was pleased to sign the pledge.

Mr Combet has visited a number of public schools in the local area and would be happy to respond to any further invitations.
