Principals' committee gives unanimous support

The Australian Education Union's National Principals Committee has given unanimous support for Federation's staffing campaign.

The following resolution was carried by the committee on June 17:

"The AEU National Principals Committee expresses its concern at the unilateral actions of the NSW Director-General of Education and Training in abandoning the NSW Staffing Agreement.

"The National Principals Committee supports those principals and teachers who are fighting to:

  • retain a state-wide transfer system;
  • ensure 'difficult to staff' schools can attract and retain qualified teachers; and
  • restore mobility rights for principals and executive staff.
  • The AEU National Principals Committee calls on the NSW Government to enter genuine negotiations with the NSW Teachers Federation to develop a Staffing Agreement that will provide certainty and stability for NSW schools to ensure a quality education for all students regardless of where they attend school."

The National Principals Committee is made up of primary and secondary principals representing every state and territory throughout Australia. The committee met in Canberra on June 16-17 to lobby ALP backbenchers on a host of issues including the serious decline in funding to public schools.
