Salaries meetings during week 1

by Dennis Long

All Federation workplaces will be encouraged to hold a Federation meeting during week 1 of term 2 to consider the union's new salaries claim.

Federation Representatives will receive a package of material including the 2004 Annual Conference decision with the initial claim, background information and a survey form to complete and return to Federation. Information about salaries movements over the last 17 as well as a comparison with other states will be included.

Federation's initial claim to be considered by the members includes:

  • a three-year award (to take teachers two years past the 2007 state election)
  • payment from January 1, 2006
  • $75,000 at the top of the classroom teacher scale maintained in real terms throughout the life of the award
  • $50,000 at the bottom of the classroom teacher scale maintained in real terms throughout the life of the award
  • restructuring of primary/central promotions positions to provide the same salary as equivalent secondary positions.
