Prac student supervisors offered AWAs

Federation has condemned the Federal Government's misuse of public money by insisting Australian Workplace Agreements (AWAs) must be offered to all university employees as a condition of federal funding for universities.

The union has learned about teachers supervising student "practicums" being offered Australian Workplace Agreements (AWAs) by some universities.

Federation calls on all members supervising student teachers to reject any AWA offered to them. A pro forma letter of rejection is being developed and will be provided to all schools for the use of members.

Schools where student teachers are being supervised will be requested to hold a Federation meeting to oppose the Federal Government's requirements and send their resolutions to the appropriate Members of Parliament including Federal Education Minister Brendan Nelson. A pro forma resolution will be provided to schools.
